Covert Hypnosis – Is Using Repetitions Appropriate in Covert Hypnosis?

Covert hypnosis is very different from traditional hypnosis yet it is still hypnosis. This can create confusion, especially in those who are familiar with the traditional form of this psychological method for influencing.

The question I get asked most often is whether the traditional techniques or at least some of them can be applied in covert hypnosis and used effectively. In general, there is not a single answer to this question. Some of the techniques may be used while others may not.

Let’s take the use of repetition, which is fundamental for the traditional method. For instance, “You fall deeper and deeper. You feel lighter and lighter.”

Obviously, you cannot use such direct trance phrases in conversational hypnosis. Remember that the beauty of it is that the other person is not aware that you are hypnotizing him.

However, repetitions can be effectively used for as embedded commands for creating a resourceful state. The key to using them successfully is to slip in the embedded commands into phrases and sentences that sound naturally.

Let’s say that you are trying to make the person feel a little bit more confident before making him do the thing you want. You can readily say to him things, such as, “When do you usually feel confident?”, “What would it be like to feel confident now?” and “Getting more relaxed will help you feel confident.”

You see how “feel confident” appears in every question. You can ask these questions one after another to make the repetition a powerful embedded command.

Just remember to use the correct tone of voice for covert hypnosis. Lower your voice and speak flatly when you pronounce “feel confident.”

This application of repetitions can be used in many different situations. You just need to use the basic idea to develop a unique pattern.
