Hypnosis- The Oldest Form of Influence

-Tips and Tricks for getting what you want and changing behavior, from the Stone Age to the Digital Age

Hypnosis is a fascinating field of study and practice. Working with hypnosis is all about working with the hidden, subconscious corners of the mind.

When you work with trance states, you bypass the subject’s rational mind and appeal to the underlying understandings and motivations that manifest in that person’s actions.

Hypnosis is powerful, and is even more powerful when you come to understand that it can be practiced anywhere, anytime, to get anything you want.

Think about it- hypnosis has been a powerful tool for controlling and changing behavior for a long time now. Some theorize that the medicine drum of the early shamanic people’s was a way of inducing hypnotic trance.

The bang, bang, bang of the drum repeated for hours on end, combined with other repeated ritual actions, would send the whole tribe into a hypnotic state where they were said to learn new things and pick up new insight into life.

Many yogic practices in India can be said to work to induce a hypnotic trance, from extensive repetitions of yoga positions to priests who would focus on a single point for hours and days on end, whose purpose one explorer explained as “is to induce a habit of abstraction or concentration of attention, in which the subject is entirely absorbed with one idea, or train of ideas, whilst he is unconscious of, or indifferently conscious to, every other object, purpose, or actions.”

The dedicated study and practice of hypnosis didn’t enter in to the western world until the 19th and 20th centuries, where it was first used for therapeutic reasons- often to powerfully change patient’s habits and unconscious actions.

It wasn’t long before the powers that be, the politicians and the advertisers, began to read the literature and started to incorporate the science of hypnosis to make themselves more persuasive.

They began to choose their wording, their cadence, their voice tone to ones that were better at convincing people to follow them and do as they say. They began to attempt to essentially use hypnosis to hypnotize people to control them.

Now, I’m not saying that this is any big conspiracy, or that we all need to start wearing tinfoil hats. There’s actually no conspiracy about it- it’s well documented and openly talked about.
